Work with me
Updated
AI that works on your real data and gets signed off by the people responsible for risk. I've done both sides of that.
I sat on the HSBC committee that approved AI and cloud deployments in the US, so I know what a bank's control functions ask before they say yes. And I build and test AI systems myself, so when I say a use case will work, or won't, it comes from having built one.
In IT since 1985, running business continuity and incident management inside banks since 2000, and building with AI every day since April 2025. In September 2026 I chose to leave HSBC and go after AI: growth over safety. I've waited a long time for a wave like this one, and I'm free to ride it now, as a permanent hire, a contract, or a fixed piece of work.
AI strategy and adoption
What you get
A short list of the AI use cases worth funding, what each one costs to run, and what has to be checked before anyone trusts the output. You put money into the ones that will pay and stop the rest before they cost you.
What's different
The plan comes from someone who has approved AI deployments inside a bank and builds AI systems himself, so it allows for both the control functions and the engineering from the start.
The proof
From 2023 until I left, I sat on HSBC's US committee that approved AI and cloud deployments, reviewing new AI applications against the bank's internal AI restrictions. I benchmark models before I rely on them. My research traces what's claimed about AI back to the primary sources: the first paper took nineteen AI-failure statistics to source and found that seven of them measure nothing that happened.
AI implementation and business analysis
What you get
A use case taken from idea to a tested system that works on your data, or a plain verdict that it won't earn its keep, before the budget has gone.
What's different
The person who pins down the requirements also builds and tests the system, so nothing gets lost between what the business asked for and what the code does.
The proof
I started as a systems programmer, writing real-time banking systems in assembler, and at Amadeus I designed and built the global flight information system for its airline reservation platform. Since 2025 I've shipped my own AI products solo, written complex trading applications in Python, and shut down the products that missed their numbers, in public. I wrote agent-11, an open-source framework of eleven specialist agents for Claude Code. The code is on GitHub for you to check.
Operational resilience, business continuity and crisis management
What you get
Recovery that works on the day it is needed and stands up when the regulator reviews it.
What's different
Recovery built for a workforce that already works from anywhere. I moved three recovery sites off the traditional work-area recovery model to one built around remote working and moving workloads between sites.
The proof
I was Americas Head of Business Continuity and Incident Management at HSBC Global Banking and Markets, accountable for the recovery sites and the technology in them. In January 2020 I went to Hong Kong to lead the COVID response for HSBC Asia Pacific. Every US regulatory review of the programme, by the OCC, the NFA and the Federal Reserve, closed with no business continuity issues raised. I wrote one of the first books covering business continuity, crisis management and IT disaster recovery together, The Business Continuity Management Desk Reference (2010).
Start small
Bring me one use case or one recovery problem. Email it in a paragraph and I'll tell you straight whether I'm the right person for it. See the result before you commit to more.
I'm returning to the UK from New York and can start at short notice in the UK, elsewhere in Europe or further afield.
