The Road to Hell is Paved with AI-Generated Fool Gold

AI has made it easier than ever to look credible without being credible.

But the trust floor is cracking.

The Short-Term Play

Right now, the rational short-term play looks obvious: flood the zone with AI content, grab attention, extract cash. The barrier to entry has been obliterated. Anyone can manufacture the appearance of expertise in minutes.

Here is what the snake oil salesmen are missing: the market is already turning against them.

The Numbers

Only 26% of consumers now prefer AI creator content, down from 60% in 2023. That is not a dip. That is a rout.

Meanwhile, Google E-E-A-T signals are getting sharper. AI discovery systems are training themselves to reward original, verifiable human experience.

And a landmark Nature study showed AI trained on AI data undergoes model collapse. It literally needs uncontaminated human insight to survive.

The cheap stuff is flooding the zone. The real stuff is becoming scarcer.

Gresham Law

I have been thinking about this through the lens of Gresham Law: bad money drives out good. When people cannot distinguish genuine coins from debased ones, the fakes circulate and the real thing gets hoarded. The same dynamic is playing out in digital content right now.

My Response: The Virtuous Circle

Build businesses. Encounter real problems. Create tools. Share everything, including the ugly numbers.

/bin/zsh MRR. 20 active projects. Published openly.

That radical transparency is content AI cannot replicate, because it requires the one thing no language model has: skin in the game.

I would rather fail as a pilot of the future than win the race to the bottom with vaporware.

Truth is the currency of the future. I am betting everything on it.
